Danang

Danang

Pearl farms in the distance. Hoi An is about 40 minutes from Danang. Danang is a larger beach community and they have an airport. To get to Hoi An, you can drive easily from Danang. We drove from Hue, it was a very scenic drive and only took a few hours. We stopped along the way to have a Vietnamese coffee and ended up buying pearls!

Old Merchant house--now a lovely restaurant

Old Merchant house--now a lovely restaurant

The food in Hoi An is great. We loved eating at the various restaurants. Many are in old merchant houses, or located right on the river. Charming and delicious!

All the streets look like this. No cars are allowed beyond a certain point, so everyone rides bicycles or the dreaded motor scooters.

Here is another old merchant house. I love them.

Old town has many of these merchant houses, built by the Chinese, many years ago. The Old Town is a Unesco World Heritage Site and these houses are all protected.

This covered bridge is so beautiful. The photo doesn't do it justice. Hoi An is an old trade town, so you get a lot of beautiful old architecture.

Floating candles

Floating candles

I've only seen people selling floating candles on the Ganges River. It is nice to see this tradition taking hold elsewhere too. So pretty.

At night, the Old Town is lit up with lanterns of all colors. My favorite was the red lanterns.

The drummers

The drummers

There are many groups of drummers. Each one seems to have their own following, along with a Tiger or two. They wander the streets of Old Town and entertain everyone.
